Progression Plan Starting pay per hour for Maintenance Worker is
18.40 to 22.08 depending on experience. Additional 1.25 for ability
to demonstrate the operation of Light equipment, demonstrate MUTCD
knowledge, and 2 years of experience in field Additional 1.25 for
CDL Up to an additional $.50 for TDA Under general supervision,
performs unskilled general labor in the maintenance of City
streets, drainage system and infrastructure for the Public Works
Department; operates hand and power tools and equipment in
accordance with all safety regulations and procedures. Primary
Duties and Responsibilities: Performs general manual labor tasks in
order to maintain streets, drainage system and infrastructure as
assigned; duties may vary according to job assignment and
individual skills. Performs maintenance and repairs within scope of
authority, and in accordance with all safety regulations and
procedures; reports safety hazards, equipment problems and
emergency situations. Operates and maintains a variety of
specialized tools and equipment; assists with maintenance work on
tools and equipment. Assists in the repair and maintenance of
drainage system and roadways; inspects storm drains and drainage
ditches; checks manhole covers; clears trash, brush, weeds and
debris; digs and fills holes and maintains slopes; clears and
repairs roadway and adjoining areas. Learns a variety of work tasks
and procedures, including repair and maintenance of streets,
roadways, and infrastructure. Follows all safety rules and
regulations to minimize risk of accidents. Responds as directed to
perform emergency cleaning and maintenance work. Cross trains in
all maintenance tasks. Responds outside of normally scheduled work
hours in response to special events, natural disasters,
emergencies, or critical incidents as determined by the City.
Maintains the integrity, professionalism, values and goals of the
City by assuring that all rules and regulations are followed, and
that accountability and public trust are preserved. Cooperates with
co-workers professionally to accomplish work efficiently and
effectively. Has regular, predictable attendance; attendance is a
factor in continued employment with the City. Performs other duties
as assigned or required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and
Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND one year of
maintenance work experience. Required Licenses or Certifications:
Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License. Required Knowledge of:
City policies and procedures. Occupational hazards and safety
precautions. Customer service standards and protocols. Required
Skill in: Operating and maintaining tools and equipment according
to basic operating and safety procedures. Performing heavy manual
labor including lifting and carrying heavy objects. Closely
following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with
co-workers. Physical Demands / Work Environment: Work is performed
indoors and outdoors at work sites throughout the City; required to
perform moderate physical work, and lift and carry up to 80 pounds.
